How to Be Truly Happy at Work
How to Be Truly Happy at Work We spend a lot of our time at work, so we want to feel happy in our jobs. By finding a job and working environment we enjoy being in, we naturally feel more motivated and driven to achieve our best. But how exactly can we go about this? Naomi Simson came up with four stages to having more fun at work. 1. Get social Humans are naturally social creatures and its important for us to interact and connect with other people, both in our personal lives and in the workplace. It doesnt take much to get to know your colleagues and by putting in just a little bit of effort each day, such as offering to do a morning coffee run, you can form positive relationships with those around you. After all, we spend a great deal of time at work each week, so you want to get along with the people youre sharing the office with day in day out. If youd like to get to know them a bit better, you could suggest taking your lunch break with a couple of colleagues or starting an office book club. 2. Jump at opportunities Its easy to become bored in a job that you dont feel stimulated by. Seek out opportunities that challenge you professionally and show initiative by asking your boss if theres anything you can help with or suggesting a new project you would like to work on. By showing drive and passion in your work, its bound to get noticed by your boss and will hopefully lead to some form of recognition or reward for your hard work, which is always nice! 3. Seek change If theres something in particular that is making you unhappy or is bothering you in some way at work, dont be afraid to bring up the issue with your boss. By coming up with a possible resolution to the issue, Im sure theyd be more than happy to accommodate changes in your job to improve the situation. You should feel like you can stand up for yourself and if its important to you, you should address it head on, rather than suffering in silence or complaining to other colleagues, which is bound to backfire! 4. Help others Not only does doing things for other people help them out, but it also makes you feel pretty good about yourself for it too! So do what you can to make those around you happy and youll feel happy in return. You can achieve this by acknowledging good work from your colleagues or paying them compliments. Also if they look a bit stressed or piled under, why not ask if you can lend them a hand? Im sure theyll be more than happy to return the favour when youre in need of assistance.
